Indians outfielder Austin Jackson made a ridiculous catch to rob Hanley Ramirez last night at Fenway Park. Ramirez drove a ball to deep right center field near the Triangle of Death. What looked like a solo home run quickly turned into an out after Jackson went airborne and made an insane catch, flipping into the bullpen. Jackson almost completely jumped over the notoriously low outfield wall at Fenway.
The type of catch you'll tell your grandchildren about.— Cleveland Indians (@Indians) August 2, 2017
Ladies and gentlemen, Austin Jackson. pic.twitter.com/xK2rr0QV6U
Unbelievable. The play left Hanley Ramirez, as well as the rest of the stadium, in disbelieve. After the replay review, the call was confirmed and Ramirez was officially called out. The Fenway faithful applauded Jackson upon seeing the play on the big screen, showing truly how remarkable the catch actually was.
Hats off to Austin Jackson on the ridiculous catch. The concentration to track the ball, as well as the fearlessness to know that he was either going to hit the wall or flip over it showed a lot of heart.
Jackson’s acrobatics bring back flashbacks of Torii Hunter flipping over the wall after trying to catch David Ortiz’s game trying grand slam in the 2013 playoffs. Jackson has made his case for catch of the year, and will probably claim that title when the season ends.
