In the high school baseball circuit, perhaps no player displays the level of athleticism and tools of the 2027 graduate and LSU commit Jordin Griffin. Griffin is the number one-ranked player in his class in Louisiana and is the ninth-ranked player in the nation.
Griffin is a 5’9”, 170-pound outfielder and third baseman who can impact a game in a variety of ways, whether that be his blazing speed, ability to make hard contact to all fields, or covering ground in the outfield.
On Perfect Game’s grading scale, Griffin has a grade of 9.5 out of 10, making him an elite-level college prospect and a potential high draft pick. “Big tools in a small package, 6.46 runner and unstoppable on the bases, 116 walks in 133 PG games 2022-24,” according to Perfect Game.
Griffin has signed with Baseball Lifestyle 101 as a featured athlete and will join the roster alongside Max Clark, Jackson Olson, and USA Prime National teammate Dexter McCleon Jr.
The combination of Griffin and McCleon Jr. for USA Prime 15u National headlined the number one ranked 15u team in the country as they won the 2024 WWBA National Championship, recognized as one of the biggest tournaments on the travel baseball circuit.
“It was a great experience there. All those games played turned out to be a win in one of the biggest tournaments of the year,” said Griffin.
Griffin is entering his junior year at Alfred M. Barbe High School in Lake Charles, LA. Barbe is one of the premier high school baseball teams in the country, currently ranked fifth in the state and 40th in the nation, with a 36-6 record. The team has won four state championships in the last ten years.
Barbe has won 12 Louisiana state championships in the school’s history, most recently in 2023, when they won the national championship as the best high school baseball team in the country. Since 2000, Barbe has become one of the premier high school baseball destinations with four national championships, 11 state championships, 21 district championships, and 24 nationally ranked teams.
Alongside Griffin, the level of talent on Barbe’s roster every year makes them a contender for the state championship. With players graduating after every season and moving on to the ranks of collegiate baseball, the expectations are always high for the team and Griffin to play and thrive against some of the top teams in the country.
“You just have to take it with a grain of salt and don’t have too much pressure on yourself. You’re here for a reason,” said Griffin. “All the nice things around make you grateful for what you have.”
Griffin committed to LSU in 2023 when he was just 14 years old and has been considered one of the best players in his class throughout his journey to one of the premier college baseball programs in the country.
“Being able to play in your home state for college is a big deal. Everyone around here roots for LSU around here,” said Griffin. “The coaches made me feel at home and made it feel like the best place on Earth.”
LSU has seven national championships in program history and continues to build a perennial playoff team that attracts the best high school and transfer players in the country as they approach professional baseball. The Tigers have a rich history and tradition on campus of developing top-tier talent, and bringing in players like Griffin, who are among the elite for their respective graduating classes, will keep LSU in the conversation for one of the best teams in college baseball.
Griffin models his game after players like Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. and Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. for their style of play, how they approach the game, and the energy and work ethic they bring to the field every day.
As he continues his dream of playing professional baseball, his role within Baseball Lifestyle and recognition will only expand as he climbs the ranks of the baseball world. Baseball Lifestyle’s trip to Barbe with Griffin highlighted specific aspects of his life that got him to the level of an athlete and person he is currently and will become. The facilities that Barbe has for the development of their players reflect in the success they’ve had with two full batting cage and indoor pitching facilities, weight racks, a full weight room, and their field kept in pristine condition to ensure the best playing conditions for all players to come through the program.
Baseball Lifestyle’s day with Griffin gave a perspective of different parts of his life, specifically with a sneaker shopping video at Sneaker Politics in Lafayette, where Griffin talked about his collection, love of sneakers, and later a tour of his house, where he keeps his collection of over 100 pairs of shoes.
There will be a full-length interview with Griffin as well on our YouTube channel where he talked about his upbringing in baseball, the players he looks up to, and his goals for the rest of his time as a high school player, at LSU and professional baseball. Baseball Lifestyle is thrilled to add a player like Griffin to our team and be a part of his development as he progresses to the highest levels of baseball.
